Third Year: Amplify - Collab Office Project

The Tshimologong Precinct, well-known as a digital innovation eco-system, is dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship and enhancing the different digital skills of individuals to thrive in a modern South African and worldwide economy.

The precincts ethos has served as the catalyst for our Collab project. Drawing inspiration from the Setswana name “Tshimologong” meaning “new beginnings”, our design pays tribute to the traditional Setswana village layout. The board room and meeting room symbolise the Great Hut while the adjacent working spaces represent the “Wives” huts. The void collaboration space as well as the balustrade wrapping around the entry embody the Kraal space. The kitchen has been created to symbolize the gathering spaces also known as the “followers”. The kitchen features a low partition wall reminiscent of the stone walls found in the traditional villages.

The material selection makes use of wood which in turn evokes the trees around which Setswana villagers gather. Setswana patterns grace the ceiling, dining chairs, boardroom and meeting walls creating a harmonious blend of innovation and tradition.
