Third Year: Ilanga - Restaurant Design

Welcome to Ilanga, a beer brew pub that draws its inspiration from the Isi-Zulu word for sun. The concept revolves around the proven positive impact of sunlight creating an overall sense of joy in the atmosphere.

The concept aligns with the symbolism found in the South African Coat of Arms, where the rising sun signifies illumination as well as energy for society, Ilanga aspires to be a space where everyone feels an essential sense of belonging.

The design philosophy stems from the idea that, like the sun shining on us, all South Africans share a common ground under its light and warmth. Despite the historical complexities that have sometimes divided our society, Ilanga aims to stand as a beacon of hope and light, emphasizing harmony and unity within the space.

As a brand, our mission is to be a constant reminder that there is always hope and joy to be found, even if it's as simple as sharing a table and enjoying each other's company.
